One of Mulligan’s baritone saxophones to be donated to Juilliard
Juilliard Jazz will present a special evening featuring the music of baritone saxophonist and composer Gerry Mulligan, performed by the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra and conducted by James Burton III, with guest artist baritone saxophonist Gary Smulyan, on Feb. 29 at 8 p.m. in Juilliard’s Peter Jay Sharp Theater. The Gerry Mulligan Tribute Concert celebrates the creation of the first Gerry & Franca Mulligan Scholarship. Also as part of this special evening, one of Gerry Mulligan’s baritone saxophones will be donated to Juilliard. A Juilliard Jazz student, saxophonist Jordan Pettay, is the first recipient of the Gerry & Franca Mulligan Scholarship and will be performing with the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra that evening. The program includes original compositions by Mulligan.
