Jazz should simply be jazz. It should never play down to a dumbed-down audience, that only contributes to dragging the art form itself down. So jazz should always remain innovative and forward-moving in order to remain relevant to those who can keep up. In short, jazz shouldn't allow an uninformed public to drag it down; it should attempt to lift the uninformed up. After all, jazz is not simply entertainment - it's an art form.
