Schedule for Havana International Jazz Festival Announced

Roberto Fonseca, Harold López-Nussa, Bobby Carcasés and other Cuban jazz musicians to perform at venues throughout the city during December 15-18

This week in Cuba, the office of the Minister of Culture announced the performers and schedule for the Havana International Jazz Festival.

Here is the official statement from that office:
“The Cuban Music Institute and the Popular Music National Center call to the 27th Edition of the International Festival "Jazz Plaza 2011" which will be celebrated in Havana, Cuba, on December 15 to 18 with the participation of famous national and international artists. This time the festival will be devoted to classic music. The 7th Theoretical Colloquium will be part of the general event and it will include master classes, lectures, conferences, documentaries exhibitions, sale of music-specialized magazines and sale of jazz players' CDs and DVDs. The Festival will present concerts and jam sessions with the participation of famous national and international jazz bands. Very important stages in the city will be offering the visiting and the Cuban public an opportunity to enjoy different performances with the genre's most significant musicians.”

U.S. residents wishing to attend the prestigious festival may do so legally by participating in the cultural exchange program organized by Insight Cuba, in partnership with JazzTimes. Opening Gala : National Symphonic Orchestra conducted by Maestro Enrique Pérez Mesa, Entrevoces Choir conducted by Digna Guerra, Jorge Reyes, Roberto Fonseca and other guest artists.

Friday, December 16
Yasek Manzano and the Cords Quartet , Naat Berahman from India and other guest artists.

Saturday, December 17
Ernán López-Nussa, Troy University Jazz Ensemble, United States

Sunday, December 18
Closing Gala: Special concert by Maestro Frank Fernández and the Jazz Band conducted by Maestro Joaquin Betancourt and other guest artists.
