Lineup Announced for Otis Taylor’s Trance Blues Jam

Colorado festival will showcase blues, jazz, funk and bluegrass players

Fans of roots music know multi-instrumentalist and singer Otis Taylor from his hypnotic, rhythmic stamp on the blues, and for his colorful past that includes a stint as an antiques dealer during an off period from music. This fall, Taylor focuses on something new: his inaugural Trance Blues Jam Festival, a diversely orchestrated event that includes performances from a variety of acts, including Taylor, his daughter Cassie Taylor, bassist George Porter Jr. of New Orleans’ iconic Meters, blues guitarist Bob Margolin, jazz banjoist Don Vappie, and lauded bluegrass player Tony Trischka.

Taylor has envisioned the weekend-long event, held in his hometown of Boulder, Colo., as a collaborative gathering of audience and performer; workshops for up to 60 students with the featured artists will culminate in a collaborative performance at the Boulder Theatre. “You don’t have to be a musician to get involved … the more types of participants we have, the better,” Taylor said in an online statement. “The goal is to fill the hills with the sound of music of all genres.”

The festival begins with a “pre-Trance Jam” at the Boulder Outlook Hotel on November 25, and concludes November 27. Venues and times for workshops are yet to be announced. To receive more information or reserve a ticket to one or more of the weekend’s events, visit the festival’s website.
