WBGO to Double Transmitter Size

New Jersey jazz station will boast better coverage, reception

Newark, N.J. radio station WBGO, one of the most popular jazz stations in the country, is building a new transmitter and antenna system that will provide better signal coverage and better reception across the entire metro NY/NJ area, the station announced.

In a release, WBGO said, “Our current antenna stands 420 feet in the air, transmitting a signal that gets stopped by all manner of things—hills, buildings, the New York City skyline. The new antenna and transmitter will be at twice that height, up above the New York City skyline.” The publicly support, non-commercial station is seeking donations to help defray costs.
