Jazz Pianist Brad Mehldau Sits in with Rock Star John Mayer at Hollywood Bowl
Two perform rock classics in 4-song set
Last week, John Mayer, the versatile guitarist and pop singer who has a hard time staying out of the tabloids, tweeted to his Twitter followers about his upcoming show at the Hollywood Bowl. "Planning something so beautiful for the Hollywood Bowl show... Stay tuned..." he tweeted.
That beautiful something turned out to be a 4-song duet performance with pianist Brad Mehldau, with an interesting emphasis on classic ‘60s rock. The two did Hendrix’s “Wind Cries Mary,” Blind Faith’s “Can't Find My Way Home,” Led Zeppelin’s “Going To California,” segueing into Mayer's “Stop This Train.” The set ended with a cover of the Verve’s “Bittersweet Symphony.”
