Trumpeter Arve Henriksen to Play Rare U.S. Dates
On the heels of Cartography, his recent ECM leader debut, Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henriksen is scheduled to play four stateside shows this month, beginning with a performance at le poisson rouge in Manhattan on June 16. (For industry folks in town for the Jazz Journalists Association Jazz Awards, to be held earlier that day, the gig should make for a fine after-party.)
Arve Henriksen
Cartography, an album of esoteric soundscapes featuring field recordings, spoken word and even medieval motifs, showcases Henriksen’s wistful, eerily shakuhachi-like trumpet timbre alongside the live sampling and expert production work of Jan Bang. For ambient devotees and fans of Brian Eno or Henriksen’s fellow ECM recording artist Jon Hassell, it’s a must-hear. Bang will accompany Henriksen at the following U.S. shows; dates and links are below.
