John Scofield

The renowned guitarist traveled to New Orleans to record his latest CD, Piety Street, an impassioned homage to gospel, funk and R&B. Aided by NOLA music veterans such as George Porter, Jon Cleary and John Boutte, Scofield managed to pay tribute to his roots without sacrificing his own unique voice. Evan Haga catches up with Sco on the road during his tour and learns how his music has been formed and changed by the music of the Crescent City.

Gypsy Guitar Revival

It’s been over 50 years since the passing of legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt, whose Quintette du Hot Club de France combined swing, bop and gypsy music influences and created a genre that has not only survived, but thrived. JazzTimes looks at the Gypsy Jazz Guitar genre and the proliferation of Hot Clubs in the U.S. and overseas. What is it about this music that still resonates with modern jazz musicians of a new generation?

Nels Cline

Nate Chinen catches up with the talented guitarist, who juggles his ongoing job as a member of rock band Wilco with various jazz projects. Cline explains the fine distinctions between those two worlds and points out how they may not be so disparate.
