Monterey Jazz Festival Announces 50th Anniversary Band Tour
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Monterey Jazz Festival, the Monterey Jazz Festival 50th Anniversary Band will tour the nation from January to March of next year. The tour, which will last 10 weeks, will kick off January 8 in Washington State.
The 50th Anniversary Band Tour will feature a variety of jazz masters, including trumpeter Terence Blanchard (pictured), saxophonist James Moody, pianist Benny Green, bassist Derrick Hodge and drummer Kendrick Scott. Vocalist Nnenna Freelon will also perform with the band.
During the 54-date tour, the 50th Anniversary Band will appear at major performing arts organizations around the country, and each show will feature a mix of jazz standards from all periods of the genre, including Tin-Pan Alley and bebop.
