Wayman Tisdale Recovers From Injured Leg

Smooth-jazz bassist Wayman Tisdale, former NBA star for the Indiana Pacers and Sacramento Kings, injured his leg when he fell down at his home last month. After a series of tests, Tisdale was diagnosed as having a cancerous cyst on his fibula, which he is currently getting removed.

In an official press release, Tisdale said, “I am so pleased to report that my recovery will be 100%, and that I have been told that I am otherwise cancer-free. To recover properly, I need to curtail my touring and public appearances for a while. What this means is that I will have more free time to devote to my music. I am taking this time to work on a new record and some other very interesting projects.”

The Olympic Gold-winner plans to resume touring by Jan. 2008, just in time to host his annual Smooth Jazz Cruise. A new album, tentatively titled Rebound, is also being planned. Tisdale’s most recent record, Way Up, debuted at #1 and spent 30 weeks in the Top Ten on Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz chart, making it one of last year’s best-selling jazz releases.
