Ryan Blotnick
Music Needs You

As one of the bright lights on the burgeoning Brooklyn-based modern jazz scene, guitarist Ryan Blotnick’s thoughtful compositions and warm-toned improvisations are showcased on this superb debut. Highlights include graceful, evocative pieces like “Winter Melt” and “Wrong Turns,” the Ornette-ish “Thinning Air,” the chamberlike title track and the melodic gem “Barceloneta.” Likeminded composer-improviser and potent alto saxophonist Pete Robbins, a perfect foil throughout, is prominently featured along with pianist Albert Sanz on the floating closer “Tired House.”
