Dick and Kiz Harp
At the 90th Floor
Again! At the 90th Floor

90th Floor

Even the most dedicated jazz archivist could be excused for having never heard of Dick and Kiz Harp. Singer Kiz and pianist-vocalist Dick were based in Dallas in the late 1950s where they owned a nightclub called the 90th Floor, performing songs slightly reminiscent of Jackie and Roy but with their own flavor, wit and passion. Kiz’s unexpected death in 1960 at age 29 from a cerebral hemorrhage occurred right before their first album was released. Producer Bruce Collier talked Dick into letting him release a second record at the time, and that was essentially all that existed. Collier, who is still with us, has started the 90th Floor label and reissued all of the music (plus a few previously unreleased tracks) on At the 90th Floor and Again! At the 90th Floor, showing what the jazz world lost and bringing back the special magic and humor of Dick and Kiz Harp.
