Incognito
Who Needs Love
Narada Media

Incognito conjures up memories of the '70s on Who Needs Love (Narada); the veteran acid-jazz group has created a series of tracks that touch on soul, funk, disco and fusion. The funky, horn-accented title track features some creative vocalizing from Brazilian singer Ed Motta, while "People at the Top" wraps socially conscious lyrics in a retro-soul vibe. "Cada Dia (Day by Day)"-a song that wouldn't sound out of place on a Stevie Wonder album-is a horn-drenched fusion jam that includes a vigorous flute solo, while "Byrd Plays" is a funky workout featuring Brazilian rhythms that goes into a jazzy, sax-led jam. "Morning Sun" and "Where Love Shines" are discofied, while "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" and "If You Want My Love" up the '70s soul quotient.

With Who Needs Love, Incognito leader Jean-Paul "Bluey" Maunick and his ensemble have mined their '70s roots and influences and created a fun album that's sure to trigger lots of listener memories.
