SFJAZZ Center Dedicates Joe Henderson Lab

Family and associates gather to pay tribute to the late saxophonist

The SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco held its Joe Henderson Lab Dedication Ceremony on Aug. 14. The late Henderson's two sons, Malcolm Daniel and Kim Vasquez, and grandson Saivon Romero-Daniel, traveled to San Francisco for the ceremony. The Joe Henderson Lab is a 100-seat performance and education space at the SFJAZZ Center named for the longtime Bay Area resident.

The ceremony kicked off the Joe Henderson Festival from August 14-17. The first night featured Henderson collaborator Mel Martin presenting the music of Henderson’s 1963 debut, Page One album.
