Dizzy’s Announces Generations In Jazz Festival Lineup

Shows scheduled throughout September

Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, part of Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City, has announced the fifth annual Coca-Cola Generations in Jazz Festival. The festival kicks off on Labor Day, Sept. 1 with vocalist Michael Mwenso, showcasing the compositions Fats Waller. The opening week shows will also include concerts by the Mason Brothers Quartet featuring JCLO’s Eliot Mason, as well as a one-night-only performance by multi-instrumentalist Bria Skonberg.

Saxophonist Joe Temperley, a founding member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, will celebrate his 85th birthday during the opening festival weekend, with concerts that find him supported by the Jonathan Batiste Trio, trumpeter Bruce Harris and vocalist Brianna Thomas.

The Roy Haynes Fountain of Youth Band will perform for four nights and will feature drummer Haynes along with Jaleel Shaw on alto saxophone, Martin Bejerano on piano and David Wong on bass.

Other festival highlights include Monty Alexander, the Heath Brothers and the Peter & Will Anderson Quintet performing the music of the Dorsey Brothers.

Scheduled at 11:30pm every Tuesday through Saturday, Late Night Session features some of jazz’s most talented up and coming artists, with a special invited jam session. Hosted by vocalist Michael Mwenso, on Thursday and Saturday nights only. Full Price: Tuesdays and Wednesdays $5; Thursdays and Fridays $10; and Saturdays $20. Student Price: Tuesday through Friday $5; and Saturday $10.
