Steve Morse Band
Split Decision
Magna Carta Records

As the frontman for the seminal Dixie Dregs, Steve Morse has been in the fusion game longer than some of his more youthful contemporaries have been alive. And after more than two decades on the scene, his playing maintains its distinctive rock/country edge. Which means that he still rides up and down the chromatic scale like no one's business, and tosses out hyperspeed boogie riffs like Billy Gibbons in overdrive. Split Decision (Magna Carta) features the redoubtable Morse in a power-trio setting, joined by bassist Dave LaRue and drummer Van Romaine. Morse's quick-picking blazing is in full effect on compositions like "Majorly Up" and the disc-opening "Heightened Awareness," flipping the script on softer pieces like "Moment's Comfort" and "Clear Memories."
