We Stand... As One World
Many entertainers have generously donated time and talent to assist the families and agencies devastated by the terror attacks of Sept. 11, with musical projects-overtly patriotic and otherwise-leading the list of worthy endeavors. What distinguishes the wonderful double-CD package We Stand...As One World is not the superstar lineup-though such known names as the Yellowjackets, Marian McPartland and Michael Wolff do participate-but the rich variety of styles and performances represented, and the genuine emotions evoked. This collection is a treasure-trove celebration of cultural diversity, touching lush pop dreams (Michael Sembello's "One Planet, One People"), life-affirming Celtic dance (Eoin Duignan's "Leaving It All Behind/On With the Work"), poignant blues (Joe Beard's "No More Cherry Rose") and everything in between. Selections like the fragile and tender J.S. Bach "Suite for Lute" from Yolanda Kondonassis, haunted Latin jazz "On the Wing" by Daniel Jobim and majestic folk ballad "Stranger in This Country" by John Coinman also serve as emotional signposts, taking listeners on a journey through desperation and joy, loss and hope-all the while celebrating the human spirit through music. Proceeds (a minimum of $13 per set sold) from this uniquely touching collection benefit the Twin Towers Fund established by former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.
