Silverline

A new force in multimedia recording, Silverline has unleashed two yawners from fusion-dudes David Diggs and David Becker. The recordings, E-Klek-Trik and Germerica, respectively, are terrific examples of engineering with very well-defined instrumental images, featuring mixes that are not too disconcerting: a few synth effects and percussion thrown to the surrounds ratchet up the excitement level a bit, but not excessively. The bass on each is deep, full and well articulated, and the midrange is punchy and forward, painting an accurate portrait of what is going on instrumentally. In the case of Diggs' set, several vocals by his daughter Rachel are projected dead center and slightly forward of the speakers, with an image almost solid enough to grab. Unfortunately, as with most of the material on both discs in question, the weak musical content and insipid lyrics are not really worth grabbing.
