Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers
Beyond the Source
Tone-Cool

Harmonica ace Rod Piazza's Beyond the Source (Tone-Cool 34047-111-2; 55:21) is another raunch-toned, shuffle-swing/jump-blues affair from the W.C. Handy Award winner. Backed by his regular working band, the Mighty Flyers, Piazza cuts loose with abandon on a program of spirited originals like "Twist City," "Shakin' Hands With the Blues" and "Who Knows What's Goin' On?" Piazza's wife, Honey, contributes some fine Otis Spann-inspired piano tinkling throughout and shines on the instrumental showcases "Easy Baby" and "Miss Bee-Havin'." And guitarist Rick Holmstrom adds toughness throughout with his nasty, grunge-toned, Pee Wee Crayton-inspired lines. A tight outfit brimming with enthusiasm and chops.
