Walter Trout
Go the Distance
Ruf

Southern California guitar slinger Walter Trout makes no apologies for his obvious rock leanings on Go the Distance (RUF 1067; 63:10). From the first stinging notes on the opening boogie "Love So Deep," Trout goes straight for the jugular with heavy-metal intensity on a set of 13 tough originals. Produced by Jim Gaines, renowned in rock circles for his work on recordings by Stevie Ray Vaughan, Santana and Blues Traveler, this is basically balls-out arena rock with blue notes thrown in. Granted, Trout is a strong player with arresting technique, but blues purists probably will want to pass on this. Fans of SRV and Jonny Lang, on the other hand, should not hesitate to check out this guitar monster in full-out slash-and-burn mode.
