Cab's Cab 2 fusionoid approach is getting on in years, but it has aged fairly well, all things considered. Part of the reason is the high caliber of musicianship, starting with flashy-bass elder statesman Bunny Brunel, skinsman supreme Dennis Chambers, keyboardist Brian Auger and guitarist Tony MacAlpine. MacAlpine waxes Holdsworth-lyrical in between sheets of sound as Brunel tosses in some nice melodic bass solos and Auger shines on both electric piano and organ. Cab 2 has some stronger grooves and compositions than on last year's Cab, giving some strict marching orders to this group's array of heavy artillery.
