Diego Marulanda and Pacandé
La Verraquera!
Naxos of America

The story is not unusual: A musician leaves his homeland and, though far away, he remains true to his roots and culture. That is the story of Diego Marulanda and his 16-member band Pacande. After leaving Colombia, Marulanda moved to Canada and established himself as an accomplished musician and songwriter. La Verraquera!, with all 10 tracks written by Marulanda, is a piece of Colombia you can carry around with you everywhere you go.

The infectious rhythms of cumbia, son corrido, puya, mapale, bullerenge and fandango are the center of this delectable album. Unaffected by outside influences, Marulanda and his group have hypnotized audiences in Canada and the world by simply sticking to his native Colombian music. The group's rich artistry is evident in all aspects, including those vibrant brass solos.
