Bill Laswell
Dub Chamber
ROIR

Bill Laswell projects can range from the fascinating to the merely interesting. Dub Chamber falls closer to the favorable side of the ledger. Laswell isn't moving into any different fields on Dub Chamber-it's tough to find a Laswell release that doesn't acknowledge dub/ambient on some level. The difference here is the contributions from trumpeter Nils Petter Molvaer and electric keyboardist Craig Taborn. Molvaer introduces the disc-opening "Beyond the Zero" with Milesish horn bleats. Taborn steps in and out of Laswell's syrupy mixes, dropping some chords here, darting nimbly through the "Devil Syndrome"'s open spaces. Add Karsh Kale's tabla work, and some bass support from Jah Wobble, and you have a disc that satisfies on a number of levels.
