Cassandra Wilson to Perform “Blue Light ’Til Dawn” in NYC
Album was her breakthrough in 1993; original band members will join her
Singer Cassandra Wilson will celebrate the 20th anniversary of her breakthrough album, Blue Light ’Til Dawn with a concert at New York’s Highline Ballroom at which she will reprise the entire album. Wilson will be accompanied by members of her original band. The show takes place Jan. 13 at 8 p.m. and will feature Brandon Ross, Lonnie Plaxico, and Charlie Burnham, plus Gregoire Maret, John Davis and Jon Cowherd.
In other news, Wilson recently recorded the spiritual song “Sign of the Judgment” for a forthcoming episode of HBO’s True Detective, with T Bone Burnett producing.
In early 2014 she will begin work on an album of Billie Holiday songs to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Holiday's birth in 2015.
In March Wilson will tour with the black roots music collective Harriet Tubman & Cassandra Wilson Present Black Sun.
