“Treme” Actor Wendell Pierce to Guest at JALC Concert
“Antoine Batiste” will be orator for Ted Nash’s “The Presidential Suite”
Wendell Pierce, the actor who plays trombonist Antoine Batiste on HBO’s Treme and is host of the nationally syndicated “Jazz at Lincoln Center Radio,” will appear at JALC as the guest orator at the premiere of Ted Nash’s composition, “The Presidential Suite.” The piece will be part of the “JLCO Fresh Sounds: Ted Nash & Victor Goines” concert, taking place on Jan. 17-18.
Showtime is 8:00 p.m. and the performance will take place at the Rose Theater, part of JALC’s complex in Columbus Circle in Manhattan. Tickets start at $30
“The Presidential Suite,” according to a press release, comprises six movements reflecting, according to Nash, on “important and inspiring speeches by world leaders” that “use the intonation of the voice to form the thematic material, and the spirit and message to shape the intensity of the arrangements.” For the occasion, Goines will present “Crescent City,” a meditation on his hometown of New Orleans. Special guest Branford Marsalis will be featured on this composition.
A free pre-concert discussion will take place nightly at 7 p.m.
