Baritone saxist/flutist DiBlasio, who directs a college jazz band, is a teacher who can practice what he preaches. His quintet (plus oboe) emphasizes straightahead swinging, although tunes like Mancini's "Dreamsville" and Jobim's "Dindi" provide an occasional let up (not to mention the zany scat vocal on "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"). Trumpeter George Rabbai's lyricism complements the leader's fire.
