George Wein Awarded New Englander of the Year

Wein founded Newport Jazz Festival

The New England Council will present 88-year-old Newport Jazz Festival founder and pianist George Wein with its New Englander of the Year award at its 2013 annual dinner at the Seaport Hotel/World Trade Center in Boston tonight, Oct. 16. The awards, presented each year by the New England Council, which describes itself as “the country’s oldest regional business organization,” honor residents of the New England states “for their commitment and contributions in their fields of work, as well as their leadership and impact on the New England region's quality of life and economy,” according to a press release. They were first presented in 1964.
