Legacy Introduces First Digital-Only “Essential” Titles
Mingus, Getz, Weather Report, Mahavishnu & Grover Washington Jr. sets released
Legacy Recordings will release five new jazz titles in its long-running “Essential” series beginning today (Sept. 3). Unlike previous titles in the series, the five are being made available exclusively as digital downloads. The featured artists in the initial digital run are Charles Mingus, Stan Getz, Weather Report, Mahavishnu Orchestra with John McLaughlin, and Grover Washington Jr.
Virtually all of the recordings in these sets were originally released on the Columbia label. The Mingus and Getz collections also include some contemporaneous selections from the RCA label. Each digital compilation contains 150-160 minutes of music, the equivalent to Legacy's double-CD “Essential” series.
All tracks were sourced from up-to-date digital remasters by Sony staff engineer Mark Wilder. All five compilations were selected and sequenced by Legacy independent producer Richard Seidel.
Legacy’s “Essential” series was introduced in 2000.
