Carlos McKinney
Up Front
Sirocco Jazz

The young pianist Carlos McKinney, who plays for Sonny Rollins and Elvin Jones, is joined here by powerhouse bassist Buster Williams, saxophonist Antoine Roney and drummer Ralph Penland. "You and the Night and the Music" is the swinging opener. The ballads include "If I Should Lose You" and "Mademoiselle Gregoire." McKinney plays keyboards on the fusion numbers, "The Seer" and "Prince of Jade." McKinney has chops and only needs to acquire a more individual sound.
