Great Circle Saxophone Quartet
Child King Dictator Fool
New World Music

Two-minute takes and 12 minute stretches, notated pieces and free expression offer a range of moods from these purveyors of creative music. Of the group members-with Chris Jones, soprano; Randy McKean, alto; Dan Plomsey, tenor and Steve Norton, baritone-three were students of Anthony Braxton. His influence is apparent here, particularly in the ensemble's minimalist approach. Some people might also recognize several of the players from their work with the Balinese Gamelan Orchestra. Melody and rhythm do play a part in the conception, easing the sometimes rigidity of these original compositions.
