Jazz Foundation Annual Loft Party Set for Oct. 19
Event benefits musicians affected by storms, homelessness, etc.
The 22nd annual Loft Party, hosted by the Jazz Foundation, will take place Oct. 19 in New York City, from 7 p.m. to midnight. More than 75 artists from around the world are expect to attend. Confirmed performers to date include James Carter; the Cookers: David Weiss, Eddie Henderson, Gary Bartz, Billy Harper, George Cables, Cecil McBee and Billy Hart; Davell Crawford, Manno Charlemagne; Sweet Georgia Brown; Manu Lanvin and the Devil Blues; RL Boyce; Lakecia Benjamin and many more to be announced.
According to the Jazz Foundation’s website, “For 22 years, the Jazz Foundation's annual Jazz Loft Party has offered an experience like no other in the music world. Five hours of continuous jazz and blues in three spectacular loft spaces with panoramic views of the Hudson River. It is one of the only occasions in New York City where you can roam free in an intimate setting and mingle with some of the greatest jazz legends and celebrity hosts.”
The Jazz Foundation assists in more than 5,000 cases a year, including hundreds of musicians and their families affected by Hurricane Sandy in New York as well as those still recovering from Katrina in New Orleans.
- Preventing homelessness and eviction by paying rents and mortgages
- Creating dignified work through the Agnes Varis Jazz in the Schools concerts, which reach thousands of inner city public school children across America
- Providing free medical care and operations through partners at Englewood Hospital
- Keeping the heat turned on and food on the table through the Musicians' Emergency Fund
